Ah...smell the garlic in the air (along with the dirt pulled up by the enormous line of cars) coming from the Garlic Festival in Gilroy. Several of us had a good time eating a lot of food; some of the food with garlic, some without. I had not been to the Festival in years, but I remembered trying the Garlic ice cream and would never have it again. Everyone else had to have some...some liked it...some would never have it again. I was so full that when Dave dropped me off to go to a family friend's wedding reception (Chinese buffet style) I could barely stomach the good food available. The reception itself was a hodgepodge of asian faces, most of which were foreign to us. However, we were sitting at a table with 2 other families that were tied to my mom; all the moms went to school together when they were young and had kept generally in touch from time to time. They got to talking and we ended up having brunch and lunch with both of those same families the next day. It was really nice to meet and bond with people from my mom's past. It allowed us to see and hear things that seemed to belong in home videos or photo albums but were alive and full of color in the back of their minds, ready to be told again as if for the first time.
I think that is what I want later in life. Twenty years from now, I want to be able to go to a 'family friend's' wedding and be able to instantly catch up and bond with old friends from the past and just remember the 'good ol' days.' I think that would be something to look forward to.
