Summer School has begun. Today was a lot more relaxing than I thought it would be. The students were actually listening most of the time and that was through test after test (reading and writing diagnostics, etc.). The only gripe was the fact that everything else was not running as smoothly. The 2 copiers broke down...first day...yea. The books we were supposed to get never arrived...now they are trying to find them...hmmmm...what is the district thinking? One of the district supervisors had already stated we would be getting them...infact, they had already arrived. But, alas, we saw nothing. This was in the middle of a mass of class changes, student enrollment/drops and adding sections to classes, etc. In fact, it was a lot like the first week of regular school, but a more rushed, condensed version. At least summer school is only 4 days a week.
The last weekend was relaxing and I did not want to leave it. I went down to Fremont Thursday night and we walked to dinner...that was nice. It is soooo much more refreshing and cool over there. I so want to live in the Bay area. Anyway, the next day, I had lunch with Ed and Candace in San Mateo. We chatted up about life and how we never see each other. I hope that we do spend more time during the summer. It seems life just finds ways to bring people further and further apart.
That night, I went out to dinner with Kalen, Elena, Anna (Gin), Milly, and Jason. It was a great time had by all at the Cheesecake Factory...especially since a lot of it was making fun of me and remembering the oddest things about me that I can't really recall. (Thanx guys for coming down to see me while I was there.)
The next day, my other sister arrived and we spent the day talking a little and watching Coupling...great show. That night, we went an celebrated Tony Wan's Birthday at a Korean BBQ...I could not eat much..but, the company was good. Realizing Tony is actually 32 really hit me that we are all just getting older faster and faster (but at least we asians still look hella young!...HA!)
The next weeks will be interesting. I have never worked through summer, but for some reason, I think I will enjoy it more with more to do, especially with my 3 day weekends. Almost all are filled! July looks promising. August will be hectic since I will be planning a whole new curriculum for next year (I've never taught 10th grade before..yikes!). Ah...I hope to see some of you soon. Till anon...
