Country singer Toby Keith said on “Extra” [about the Dixie Chick star] ‘If you’ve got nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all.’ This was followed by footage of his concert in which he put up a doctored picture of the Dixie Chick and Saddam Hussein with him saying “This is what I think of her.” Now, his support of the troops is a noble thing, but I find his statement hypocritical because he obviously had nothing good to say about the Dixie Chick. The fact that his song The Angry American is doing so well because of its patriotic flavor makes me think he is making money off of the plight that is on the American heartstring.
Don’t get me wrong, I support our troops, but I find it disturbing that there are still those who, especially those on the Pro-American side (like the one above), that seem to slander and put down those that have differing opinions about the war…which is as Anti-American as I can think of.

Enough of my rant, here’s another: So, I got my first “hate” mail from a student…and, he isn’t even my student. Months ago, this kid discovered from some other kids when my birthday was and he “promised” that he was going to do something “special” for my birthday. The other day…the day after my birthday, he dropped something off for me outside my door (I did not know it was him at the time, but I suspected it was…) In the package were little trinkets (which was nice), but there were also 4 envelopes, each containing different forms of writing that were each, in their own way, disturbing and lewd. I reported it immediately and looked for suspects. Now, the one that I suspected did do it, and he apologized. It seems the campus police and the administration scared him by explaining what happened to kids who ended up in juvenile hall. Anyway, he thought it was “funny” what he did and I truly believe he didn’t think it was that “hateful.” When I look back at the mail I notice that a lot of it is very random and not too directed, but it still goes to show that a lot of young people these days have very violent and unstable tendencies that exemplify a society of young ones that think less and are more and more immature. I did note that he was probably not the only one that participated in the prank, but the only one that was caught. There were clues in the letters (the fact that there were 4 suggested that there was more than 1 writer) that clued me in to other possible suspects, but there was no solid proof.

I thought I would share that with you all. After he apologized, I forgot about the whole thing knowing that many high school students are very immature and will make fun of their teachers behind their backs till the end of time. It was just inappropriate for that kid to actually do something active.
